Ian “Snowy” Crompton

I don’t want to trivialise my late grandfather’s memory with a whole blog about him, but I do want to share some kick ass photos of him as a bike cop in the early 50’s or even earlier.

One of these photos, or one just like it- containing my grandpa- is featured, nearly life size, [...]

Gordon Update

Hey ya’ll
So I’ve finished my exams at the Gordon. I’m now offically qualified to perform jazz. My year eights were away on camp today, so I had a little free time to do some more on Gordon. I’m going to finish this fucker.
It’s brushed on, and it’s also modelling paint, which means a matte finish. [...]

Gordon Update

I think I’ve almost finished the spray painting. The rest is to be done by brush.

Gordon Update

Before and after shots of the next phase of my painting. The paint is a “metallic” blue grey car paint. I spent a great deal of time doing all the masking to the point where I thought it warranted a photo. In the left pic, it seems that the paint seems to have a [...]

Gordon Update

If it wasn’t so damned hot today I would’ve started the next phase of my painting. But you can’t spray paint on hot days because it semi dries before it hits the surface, resulting in a matted finish which just rubs off. So, at least I’ve taken off the masking tape and you can see [...]

7:43 AM

I woke up at 7:43 yesterday morning to the sounds of my Gordon recital being blasted over the lounge room speakers. It was quite loud. It was confusing. Why would my parents do this? Did we have a visitor? At this early hour? Probably not. The music then stopped. I couldn’t really hear voices. Our [...]

cANARIES

So I have these two canaries. They were a present. I tend to them as best I can, and in return they provide me with comfort and companionship. Also they are good whistlers.

Chalk (The red canary) and Cheese (The Yellow)
I don’t know if anyone who reads this blog remembered or gives a toss, but today [...]

Gordon Update

My 3rd blog for the day. I must have a lot on my mind.
Today I used dad’s airbrush to colour Gordon some more. It’s really rather expensive, apparently, but it sure worked really well. Car spray paints (which is what I’d been using for the undercoat and for the orange) have nothing compared to the [...]

Treehouse

I had a treehouse in my backyard during my youth.
It was not very tall, not overly spohisticated, not well contstructed. But boy did I love it, and use it often. It was a spaceship, actually. I was in my Star Wars phase (one that has never really left me). I didn’t really need to build [...]

Random Blog

“The sad thing about being a cynic is that you’re right most of the time”.
Unrelated. But anyway. Something to think about.
Now check this out.
At one of the schools where I teach instrumental music, they put projects related to music and musicians on the wall. These projects are done by grade sixes. Most of them are [...]
